Service Designer – Bristol, United Kingdom

Healthia, a human‑centred design and transformation specialist, is looking for an experienced Service Designer to join our team in Bristol.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll work on service‑design projects from discovery to delivery within multidisciplinary teams, developing service blueprints that integrate with other services. You will collaborate with service managers and programme directors to develop design concepts, analyse and synthesise complex evidence, and use research and data to develop design ideas. You will map existing services via user journey maps, plan and run design sessions, facilitate workshops with clinical teams, and create storyboards and blueprints. Prototype complex ideas and adapt designs quickly to changing requirements.

What We're Looking For

You need 7+ years’ service‑design experience, preferably in health, care or public sector, with proven experience leading projects with minimal support. Strong agile design practices and multidisciplinary teamwork are essential. Previous healthcare experience is desirable, along with understanding of healthcare pathways, clinical workflows, and health information governance.

You will have expertise in service‑design methodologies including service blueprinting, user journey mapping, systems mapping, and co‑design techniques. You’ll understand accessibility standards, inclusive design principles, and Government service standards, and you’ll have strong prototyping skills. Excellent stakeholder relationship management, the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, strong presentation skills, and experience building consensus and managing difficult conversations are required.

You will lead design work, communicate the value of user‑centred design, and make informed decisions that help teams align to strategic objectives. You will facilitate productive workshops, support team learning, balance user needs with organisational priorities, contribute to product roadmaps, and ensure designs meet accessibility regulations and ethical standards while maintaining design quality and documenting decisions.

You need to deliver outcomes within fixed time and budget constraints, making pragmatic decisions about scope and embedding design activities into agile workflows to keep projects successful for clients and the business.

Working Arrangements

You'll work within multi‑supplier teams, presenting to senior leadership while being mindful of commercial sensitivities. This is a permanent contract with a 6‑month probation period. Right to live and work in the UK is required. We offer hybrid working so you can be based anywhere in the UK with visits to our Bristol studio approximately once every six weeks.
