Overview

We are looking for a hands‑on Senior Service Designer with deep experience in creating end‑to‑end services that solve complex challenges to join us at DWP Digital.

We're using fresh ideas and leading‑edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.

Qualifications

  • Service Design Expertise: Proven experience designing end‑to‑end, front‑to‑back services that address complex challenges across departments or business areas.
  • User‑Centred Design: Strong ability to apply evidence‑based design principles that meet user, colleague, and organisational needs.
  • Strategic Communication: Skilled in engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels to support design decisions and service outcomes.
  • Collaboration & Facilitation: Capable of leading conversations, building consensus, and fostering teamwork across multidisciplinary groups.
  • Mentorship & Community Engagement: Experience mentoring others and contributing to a culture of openness, learning, and shared practice within the service design community.
  • Tools & Visualisation: Confident in using service design tools, storytelling, and visualisation techniques to articulate service journeys and performance insights.

Responsibilities

  • Lead efforts to understand and improve service performance, using storytelling and visualisation to communicate complex service journeys.
  • Guide teams in applying service design methods, facilitate stakeholder engagement, and help align user needs with business and policy goals.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to design inclusive, resilient services that support the Government's "Get Britain Working" vision.
  • Foster collaboration within teams and the wider service design community, mentor others, and contribute to building a culture of openness and learning.

Location & Travel

Location: Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle‑upon‑Tyne, and Sheffield (choose whichever is most convenient).

Regular travel between digital hubs is expected (travel counts as working time and is reimbursed).

Hybrid Working

Work 40% from home and 60% at a hub.

Pay & Benefits

Pay: up to £68,205 per year.

Pension: 28.97% employer contribution, worth £16,786 per year.

Holidays: 26 days rising to 31 days over time, plus up to 3 extra days off a month.
