Overview

Thales, Stockport, United Kingdom. Location: Cheadle, United Kingdom. We are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to join Thales UK, delivering software engineering management and software work package management across defence mission systems solutions.

The role covers related activities of Software Engineering Management (SWEM) and Software Work Package Management (SWPM). Some travel to client sites and other Thales UK sites may be required.

Security/Eligibility

Security level UK National. Must be a UK National due to the nature of the work and related customer requirements. For this role, the term UK Nationals must exclude dual nationals or naturalised British individuals. To be eligible for full Security Clearance, additional UK residency and vetting requirements apply. Details are provided by the UK Security Vetting process.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Ensure relevant department/product/project management plans are kept up to date and governance is applied for products/projects
  • Ensure development is performed in accordance with these plans
  • Liaise with project customers as required
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor the performance of the work, identify and manage risks throughout the Work Package lifecycle
  • Capture and monitor metrics for each stage of the project/product lifecycle and implement continuous improvement plans
  • Review Engineering Forward Load with SWEM and Head of SW Delivery
  • Contribute to bid activities regarding estimates, project scheduling and bid gate inputs
  • Develop professional knowledge in software, engineering and management and share learnings
  • Engage in training, mentoring and feedback to develop skills and experience
  • Encourage innovation and adoption of new technologies and techniques
  • Provide support to less experienced team members and ensure adherence to procedures
  • Lead by example using the Thales Leadership model to foster a high-performing culture

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in engineering project delivery across full project lifecycles with commercial awareness
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and practices
  • Experience with configuration control and change management
  • Experience in requirements management, software design and development
  • Experience in integration and verification activities
  • Experience in risk management
  • Experience in bid management and estimation techniques
  • Understanding of current trends in software engineering and toolsets
  • Experience using industry-standard software engineering toolsets

Beneficial

  • More than 5 years of experience in a SW Delivery role managing deliveries from multiple development/integration teams
  • Experience managing multi-million pound SW Work Packages
  • Experience in multi-site/multi-country development within a complex stakeholder environment
  • Experience in SW subcontract management
  • Experience with Atlassian Jira, Windchill PLM

Qualifications

  • Degree-qualified or equivalent
