Role overview
The Environment Agency creates better places for people, wildlife and the environment. We address the climate emergency and help society adapt to environmental challenges such as flooding, drought, sea level rise and coastal change. We improve and protect air, land and water quality by tackling pollution and work with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations. We believe a healthy and diverse environment supports people’s lives and sustainable, resilient economic growth.
Role
This role is an amazing opportunity to drive our Geospatial development across the organisation, enabling colleagues to deliver our environmental ambitions. We are looking for an experienced GIS strategic thinker with a proven record of effective delivery. The ideal candidate will combine a strong drive to modernise with a passion for improving the environment. Supporting the GIS Manager and Senior Team Leader, you’ll be one of two technical leads for the team. This involves working with colleagues across the Environment Agency, DEFRA and external partners to evolve our Geospatial Services, and coordinating delivery with service leads.
Team and tools
The National GIS Team provides Geospatial services and leads their use in the EA. We deliver using tools including Easimap, our in-house GIS view and query tool, ArcGIS Pro and EAMaps (ArcGIS Enterprise). We also manage and support access to ArcGIS Online (AGOL). A joined-up, well-managed, modern suite of corporate services is essential for our users.
Experience/skills required
- Experience of delivering Enterprise Geospatial Services
- Evidence of the ability to set a strategic direction and coordinate tactical delivery
- Ability to work with a wide range of customers and partners
- Experience of working with ESRI products
