Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence-led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems. You will help develop understanding of Threat, Risk and Harm and support a safer, more effective approach to tackling environmental offending while protecting officer safety.

This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promoting the use and benefits of Memex, and improving the quality of intelligence submitted. You will also support and train area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches, supervise intelligence logs, and create entities from Memex submissions. You will provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance.

Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions. Interactions may include incident response as part of duties, with potential additional payments and full training. Interviews are anticipated via Microsoft Teams in October.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face training on the MEMEX intelligence system for area staff.
  • Support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches within MEMEX.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions.
  • Create entities from MEMEX submissions and generate regular performance reports with improvement feedback.
  • Ensure high standards of quality in intelligence submissions.
  • Carry out other duties commensurate with the role.
  • Be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support as part of the incident role.

Experience/Skills Required

  • Good understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence-led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills to promote MEMEX use and mandatory safety checks.
  • Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging, effective, and inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide feedback on intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self-management and organisational skills.
  • Strong teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals.
