Overview
As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems to understand Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protecting officer safety.
This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submissions. You will provide face‑to‑face training on MEMEX and support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
Responsibilities
- Provide Memex training to area teams and promote the use and benefits of Memex to improve the quality of intelligence submissions.
- Provide face‑to‑face training to area staff on MEMEX; support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
- Supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions.
- Create entities from Memex submissions and provide regular reports on performance with feedback on improvements.
- Ensure high standards of quality in intelligence submissions and perform other duties commensurate with the role.
Team context
The Intelligence Team manages and develops all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency. Made up of several roles and disciplines, we build and maintain strong relationships with partners to work as one enforcement community and drive our intelligence‑led approach to tackling environmental crime across regimes. The team provides a professional and timely service and focuses on continuously improving how we do things to meet our customers’ needs.
Experience / Skills Required
- A good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems.
- An ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
- Excellent influencing skills, ensuring Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory.
- Ability to build strong, effective relationships.
- Ability to create and deliver engaging, effective and inclusive training.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on ways to improve intelligence submission performance.
- Strong self‑management and organisational skills.
- Great teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals.
Location, Working Patterns and Additional Information
You will need to be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working, but travel to Birmingham and other offices where staff are based will be required on occasions. Interviews will be via Microsoft Teams and expected in October.
