Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence-led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems to understand Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promote the use and benefits of Memex, and improve the quality of intelligence submitted. You will provide face-to-face training on MEMEX, support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches, supervise intelligence logs to ensure high-quality submissions, create entities from Memex submissions, and provide regular performance reports with feedback for improvement.

You should be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices where staff are based will be required occasionally. Interviews will be via Microsoft Teams and expected in October.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver face-to-face training on MEMEX and promote its use and benefits.
  • Provide support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure high-quality submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions and provide regular performance reports with feedback.
  • Ensure high standards of quality in intelligence submissions.
  • Engage in other duties commensurate with the role.

Experience/Skills Required

  • Self-motivated and proactive with an understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence-led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills; ensure Memex use is routine and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Experience in building strong, effective relationships and delivering engaging training.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to give feedback to improve intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self-management, organisational, and teamwork skills.
  • Comfort with working in a dispersed team and willingness to travel as required.
