Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety.

This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted. You will provide face to face training on the MEMEX intelligence system, support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches, supervise intelligence logs to ensure high standard of quality in submissions, create entities from Memex submissions, provide regular reports on performance and feedback, and ensure high standards of intelligence submissions. You may be required to respond to incidents as part of your role, which may attract additional payment and full training; alternative working arrangements will be available to support your incident role.

Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other staffed offices will be required on occasions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training to area staff and promote the use and benefits of Memex.
  • Improve the quality of intelligence submissions and assist area teams in submitting intelligence and conducting searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to maintain high submission quality and create entities from Memex submissions.
  • Provide regular performance reports and feedback to improve performance.
  • Deliver face‑to‑face training on the MEMEX system and ensure safety checks are mandatory.
  • Respond to incidents as required and provide business continuity support during incidents (may attract additional payment).
  • Work with the Intelligence Team to manage and develop criminal intelligence and maintain relationships with partners.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Self‑motivated and proactive with a good understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills and ability to ensure Memex use and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Ability to build strong, effective relationships and to create and deliver engaging, inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self‑management and organisational skills and good teamwork.
  • Comfortable working in a dispersed team and willing to travel as required.

Location & Additional Information

You will need to be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions.
