Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems. You will help drive a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and support a safer, more effective response to environmental offending.

This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promoting the use and benefits of Memex, improving the quality of intelligence submissions, and delivering face‑to‑face training on our intelligence system, MEMEX.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face‑to‑face training to area staff on MEMEX.
  • Provide support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions.
  • Provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance.
  • Ensure high standards of quality of intelligence submissions.
  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the role.
  • Respond to incidents as part of a central incident role, with potential for additional payment and full training; flexible arrangements may support this role.

Experience/skills Required

  • A good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems.
  • An ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills, ensuring Memex use is standard and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Proven ability to build strong, effective relationships.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging, effective, and inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback to improve intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self‑management and organisational skills.
  • Great teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals.

Location, travel and accessibility

You will be comfortable working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions.

Interviews are via Microsoft Teams and expected to be held in October.
