Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems to build understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protecting officer safety.

This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promoting the use and benefits of Memex and improving the quality of intelligence submissions. You will provide face to face training on our Intelligence system, MEMEX, and support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches. You will supervise intelligence logs to ensure high quality submissions and create entities from Memex submissions. You will provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance, and ensure high standards of intelligence submissions. Other duties commensurate with the role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training to area staff and promote the use and benefits of Memex.
  • Improve the quality of intelligence submissions and supervise intelligence logs to ensure high standards.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions and conduct searches as needed.
  • Provide regular performance reports and feedback to improve outcomes.
  • Respond to incidents as required, with the possibility of an incident role, additional payment and full training; alternative working arrangements available to support incident duties.
  • Work with the Intelligence Team to manage and develop criminal intelligence and maintain relationships with partners to support an intelligence-led approach to environmental crime.

Experience / Skills Required

  • Self-motivated and proactive; good understanding of Intelligence and Intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence-led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills; Memex use and safety checks as mandatory.
  • Ability to build strong, effective relationships and deliver engaging, inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self-management and organisational skills; good teamwork.
  • Comfortable working in a dispersed team; location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices required on occasions.
