Overview
As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to develop understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety.
Responsibilities
- Provide Memex training to area staff and promote the use and benefits of Memex; improve the quality of intelligence submitted.
- Provide face‑to‑face training on our Intelligence system, MEMEX.
- Provide support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
- Supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions.
- Create entities from Memex submissions.
- Provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance.
- Maintain high standards of quality in intelligence submissions.
- Undertake other duties commensurate with the role.
Experience / Skills / Qualifications
- Good understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
- Ability to advocate for an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
- Excellent influencing skills; ensuring Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory.
- Ability to build strong, effective relationships.
- Ability to create and deliver engaging, effective and inclusive training.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback on intelligence submission performance.
- Strong self‑management and organisational skills.
- Strong teamwork to support colleagues in achieving common goals.
Additional information
- Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices where staff are based will be required on occasions.
- Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; you will need to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- Security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required. Visa applications cannot be supported for this role.
- Interviews are via Microsoft Teams and are expected to be in October.
