Overview

We are looking for a solution architect to join an award-winning team with a proven track record of combining data science techniques with an intimate knowledge of payments data to aid Financial Institutions in their fight against money laundering and fraud. Headquartered in The City of London, we craft bespoke services that help our clients gain an understanding of the underlying criminal behaviour that drives financial crime, empowering them to take action.

The role is part of the Architecture function and focuses on creating and maintaining architectural frameworks, understanding Product requirements and translating them into designs for the Engineering teams, and presenting solution requirements to Platform Architecture. You will ensure designs meet Mastercard technology and security standards, and present them to Architecture & Technology design reviews. The role is global, designing global products and how they will be deployed regionally.

Role responsibilities

  • Draft architectures that follow design principles and discuss them with other technical and non-technical stakeholders (Engineering, Platform, Product, Data Science, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance of solution designs with Mastercard Technology and Security standards and policies.
  • Support closely the Engineering Team to progress software through review.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Data Science teams to design and implement MLOps pipelines and feature derivation workflows that enable scalable, secure, and reliable deployment of machine learning models into production.
  • Work with platform architects to ensure appropriate infrastructure sizing, deployment strategies, and alignment with enterprise standards for performance, resilience, and cost-efficiency.
  • Define and maintain API specifications.
  • Assist with architectural design assessments for changes and evolution of FCS products.
  • Assist with technology assessments, software selections, and architectural evaluations to ensure alignment with business objectives and technical requirements.
  • Circulate architectural designs across cross-functional team leads to support estimations and development processes.
  • Design for resilience and reliability of services.
  • Take an active role to improve the customer experience of services/applications sold as products or bundled services.
  • Drive architectural design, including dependent services, service interactions, and policies.
  • Address emerging technical concerns and recommend innovations to enhance market-readiness of specific solutions.
  • Present solution designs in review architecture meetings and drive resolutions to enterprise-wide challenges and regulatory needs.
  • Develop understanding of end-to-end technical architecture and dependency systems.
  • Design for optimal performance and resilience of products.
  • Participate in the hybrid work model; based in central London with office attendance in line with Mastercard policy (team days currently Monday and Thursday).

All About You

  • You enjoy designing products to solve real, pressing problems for customers and prefer working in a team with an interest in data science and how advanced algorithms may be deployed as product offerings.
  • You are detail oriented and enjoy drafting, discussing, and evangelising architectural designs and documentation; you have a strong foundation as a senior engineer with successful delivery of multiple enterprise-grade software projects.
  • You have experience building and maintaining distributed high-throughput, low-latency solutions using cloud-native technologies and container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes.
  • You have experience architecting event-driven systems that support asynchronous workflows and scalable service interactions.
  • You understand database optimisation techniques to improve query performance, storage efficiency, and data access patterns.
  • You have experience navigating enterprise software delivery, including cross-functional collaboration, architectural governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • You have experience presenting solution designs in architecture review meetings.
  • You are comfortable with productionising machine learning technologies and understand operational challenges and performance considerations.
  • You have experience or interest in payments, fraud, or money laundering, or equivalent in related fields.
  • You can articulate architecture patterns of complex systems to both business and technical audiences, and understand cost analysis for internal, hybrid, and public cloud environments.
  • You are familiar with API standards and cataloguing to drive API/service adoption, and basic knowledge of OpenAPI is a plus.
  • You understand contemporary approaches to service design, including containers, streaming data platforms, and in-memory/NoSQL stores.
  • You are experienced with DevOps practices to guide developers and abstract application development from hosting platforms and infrastructure.
  • You are comfortable communicating with a range of stakeholders, including Product owners, platform architects, data scientists, software engineers, and security professionals.
  • You have experience productionising machine learning models and working in fast-moving regulated environments.
  • You have experience understanding data protection regulatory needs (e.g., PCI DSS, GDPR) and documenting architectural principles and design patterns.
  • You have experience or interest in data anonymisation or tokenisation solutions.

Corporate Security Responsibility
