About The Role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Solution Architect to join our dynamic team, working across the UK and offshore. As part of our digital transformation, we’re harnessing our people power and innovation to lead an industry shift from paper and pen to data-driven digital processes and decision making. This means that the opportunities to make an impact are almost endless. Your experience and ideas will help change the way our industry works. We are looking to upgrade our core systems with purpose – as well as maximising our productivity across the back office, we want to aggressively build out digital solutions into resource and logistics management underpinned by financial, commercial and procurement improvements. We need energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate individuals to be the bridge between our business and technical teams to help meet ambitious outcomes. You will have the flexibility to be based at any of our main office locations, and you’ll become a well-known face on our key contracts including Sizewell C, HS2, CPS M25, and our Highways projects amongst many others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technologist: understand and immerse yourself in strategic technologies from Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, and Google. Understand, or quickly build an understanding of, more industry-specific technologies from Autodesk, Trimble, Causeway and Confirm. Collaborate with SMEs and organisations such as universities to bring innovation into our solutions. Lead from the front on our burgeoning AI solutions as we look to deploy these into operational activity.
  • Lead solutions problem solver: drive major and minor programmes of change, problem solving, optioneering, and driving technical change while managing workload and team resources. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and drive adoption of new tools and techniques.
  • Architecture governance: ensure standards align with governance and best-practice, maintain cost-efficient, scalable solutions, and assure designs delivered by technical and project delivery teams.
  • Engagement with bids and mobilisation: articulate capabilities, think laterally to meet client needs, and develop narratives around digital innovation. Address operational and cultural challenges of a highly mobile workforce and secure access from corporate devices 24x7.
  • Lead Architects: ensure high technical standards of output, mentor and develop the team, and coordinate with field engineering, infrastructure, and service teams to optimise delivery.
  • Knowledge conduit: maintain regular contact with CIO, Enterprise Architects, IT SLT, and business leaders to align solutions with business objectives and ensure ease of adoption for key stakeholders on project sites.
