Overview

Penguin Recruitment is working with a leading environmental consultancy to appoint a Principal Air Quality Consultant to its high-performing Bristol team. This senior post will see you leading complex commissions across infrastructure, transport, urban development and industry, shaping healthier, more sustainable places while mentoring a growing group of consultants.

What you’ll do

  • Own project delivery: scope, direct and review major air quality assessments and dispersion modelling (ADMS / AERMOD), define methodologies, and ensure outputs meet regulatory and client requirements.
  • Be a trusted advisor: provide strategic technical input to developers, planners and local authorities; contribute to frameworks, bids and long-term client relationships.
  • Set the bar on quality: assure modelling strategies, troubleshoot complex issues, and sign off deliverables including ES/EIA chapters and planning/permit submissions.
  • Lead people and resources: line-manage, mentor and develop the team; coordinate resourcing and training.
  • Deliver robust evidence: oversee monitoring campaigns, QA/QC of datasets, and provide defensible inputs for inquiries and examinations.
  • Stay ahead of policy: track and interpret UK air quality policy, LAQM TG(22) and IAQM/EPUK guidance, embedding emerging best practice.

About You

  • 7-10+ years experience in air quality consultancy or regulation.
  • Advanced proficiency with ADMS / AERMOD / Breeze, including uncertainty, verification and model evaluation.
  • Exceptional report writing and review skills; confident communicator with clients and stakeholders.
  • Degree in Environmental/Atmospheric Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related field.
  • Chartered (CEnv/MIEnvSc/IAQM) or working toward: strongly preferred.
  • Commercially astute: pricing, programmes, risk management and client development.
