Counter Fraud Consultant/Senior Consultant at RSM UK

Our established Fraud Risk Services team is looking for more fraud experts. Our ideal candidate has a background and real interest in fraud prevention and can quickly start assisting clients to identify gaps in their fraud controls and remedy these, or work with their teams to train staff to recognise and prevent fraud.

Our team provides a range of counter fraud services to public and private sector clients. Many recurring clients are NHS bodies, who report annually against CFA requirements. Our NHS clients contract us for 15 to 150 days per year to provide a full proactive service. In addition to this, our staff are accredited to undertake criminal investigations where NHS clients are the victim of fraud.

You will make an impact by:

  • Undertaking Fraud and Bribery Risk Assessments – working with senior managers to understand controls in place to mitigate fraud and bribery, testing their effectiveness, highlighting missing/ineffective controls, and scoring the residual risk.
  • Policy reviews – reviewing client policies where fraud or bribery risks exist, ensuring that suitable controls are listed to reduce the possibility of offences being committed and allow disciplinary action where appropriate.
  • Liaison with senior staff – reporting directly to the Director of Finance or Chief Financial Officer to keep them apprised of fraud prevention work, current risk levels, and progress against the agreed plan; producing and presenting annual workplans, progress reports and annual reports to the Audit Committee.
  • Delivering training – preparing and presenting informative, engaging training sessions to clients’ staff, from induction for new starters to more in-depth sessions for finance, HR or procurement staff, or informing the Board on relevant requirements.
  • Undertaking proactive exercises – deep-diving into identified fraud risk areas to review and test controls, identify whether any fraud is present, and strengthen procedures.
  • Receipt of fraud referrals – receiving complaints relating to fraud, bribery or corruption and working with the organisation’s Freedom to Speak Up Guardian to ensure clear reporting lines.
  • Receiving referrals and conducting investigations with proportionality to determine losses or gains and key lines of enquiry.
  • Submitting information requests under the Data Protection Act for evidence; liaising with witnesses to gather evidence/exhibits and taking statements; undertaking interviews under caution; preparing case papers for the CPS; and recognizing when sanctions may not be appropriate and recommending internal or regulatory action.
  • Making recommendations to prevent recurrence and working with NHSCFA Financial Investigators to gain evidence.
