Overview
The Environment Agency creates better places for people, wildlife and the environment. We put the climate emergency at the heart of what we do and help society adapt to environmental challenges such as flooding, drought, sea level rise and coastal change. We improve and protect the quality of our air, land and water by tackling pollution. We work with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations and believe a healthy and diverse environment enhances people’s lives and contributes to sustainable and resilient economic growth.
This role is an amazing opportunity to drive our Geospatial development across the whole organisation, enabling colleagues to deliver our challenging environmental ambitions. We’re looking for an experienced GIS strategic thinker with a proven record of effective delivery. Our ideal candidate will combine a strong drive to modernise with a passion for improving the environment.
Role and team
Supporting the GIS Manager and Senior Team Leader, you’ll be one of two technical leads for the team. The National GIS Team provides Geospatial services and leads on their use in the EA. We deliver through a variety of tools including Easimap (in-house GIS view and query tool), ArcGIS Pro and EAMaps (ArcGIS Enterprise service). We also manage and support access to ArcGIS Online (AGOL).
A joined-up, well-managed, modern suite of corporate services is essential for our users.
Responsibilities
- Lead and shape the strategic direction for Enterprise Geospatial Services and coordinate tactical delivery.
- Collaborate with a wide range of customers and partners across the Environment Agency, DEFRA and external bodies.

- Coordinate with GIS service leads to ensure effective delivery and adoption of geospatial capabilities.

- Evidence of ability to set a strategic direction and coordinate tactical delivery.
- Ability to work with a wide range of customers and partners.
- Experience of working with ESRI products.
