Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence-led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training, promote the use and benefits of Memex, and improve the quality of intelligence submitted.

You will provide face-to-face training to area staff on our Intelligence system, MEMEX, support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches, supervise intelligence logs to ensure high quality submissions, create entities from Memex submissions, and provide regular reports on performance with feedback for improvement. You will ensure high standards of quality in intelligence submissions. The team works to drive an intelligence-led approach to tackling environmental crime and to reflect diverse communities we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training and promote use and benefits of Memex across area teams.
  • Improve the quality of intelligence submissions and train staff to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions and provide regular performance reports with feedback.
  • Deliver face-to-face training on MEMEX and support area teams in using intelligence systems.
  • Respond to incidents as part of the team, with potential additional payment and full training; flexible arrangements to support incident roles.
  • Maintain inclusive practices and support flexible working patterns on request.
  • Collaborate with the Intelligence Team to manage and develop criminal intelligence and build relationships with partners.

Experience and Skills

  • A good understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate for an intelligence-led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills; ensuring Memex use is standard and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Experience in building strong, effective relationships and delivering engaging, inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to give feedback to improve intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self-management and organisational skills; good teamwork to support colleagues.

Location, Working Arrangements and Interviews

Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working. Travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions. Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams and are expected to be in October.
