Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety.

This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted. You will also provide face‑to‑face training on our intelligence system, MEMEX, and support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches. You will supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions and create entities from Memex submissions. You will provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance, and ensure high standards of quality in intelligence submissions. Other duties commensurate with the role.

Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and other offices will be required on occasions. Responding to incidents is a central part of the work, and you may need to take an incident role or provide business continuity support during an incident (this may attract additional payment and full training). Interviews are expected to be held in October via Microsoft Teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Memex training to area teams and promote the use and benefits of Memex.
  • Support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure high standards of quality in submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions.
  • Provide regular performance reports and feedback for improvement.
  • Maintain high standards of intelligence submission quality.
  • Respond to incidents as required and support business continuity.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with the role.

Experience/Skills Required

  • Self-motivated and proactive with a good understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
  • Ability to advocate an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
  • Excellent influencing skills to ensure Memex use is standard and safety checks are mandatory.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to create and deliver engaging, inclusive training.
  • Excellent communication skills with constructive feedback on intelligence submission performance.
  • Strong self‑management and organisational skills; good teamwork.
